Hope is the path.

Would you like to get out and walk for hospitality and for hope?

Here are 10 inspiring ways for you to get out and walk and add your walk to ours.

10 ways to walk.

01.

PATHS OF HOSPITALITY. Over these last few years, we have held hundreds of Paths of Hospitality activities in Spain and elsewhere in Europe, and thousands of people in dozens of cities have taken part. Click here to see some of the activities held last year, and in this video you can see how 2,000 people covered over 5,000 kilometres for hospitality in Spain in 2018.

02.

CULTURAL CARAVAN FOR HOSPITALITY. This initiative began in 2016 at the Catholic University of Táchira together with the JRS Venezuela and the RAIF (Apostolic Ignatian Border Network). An itinerant artistic-social project, it promotes solidarity, comradeship and hospitality by visiting communities on the Colombian-Venezuelan border.

03.

CULTURAL FESTIVAL FOR HOSPITALITY. An activity of cultural encounter and celebration within the framework of the World Social Forum on Migration in Mexico in 2018, it allows us to connect with and mutually recognise migrants, refugees and displaced people from all over the world and celebrate life.

04.

OTRO PASSO MÁS. This app was created to mark Migrants’ Day 2021. The song “Otro Passo Más”, whose lyrics are based on the stories of forced, displaced and refugee migrants, can only be listened to if you walk. This activity seeks to keep step with people from different places who have been forced to migrate and to be aware of how important it is to get moving in order to move forward.

05.

CARAVAN FOR HOSPITALITY. This is a tour through the Americas to promote a culture of welcome and encounter, making stops in communities in the region where migrants and refugees are welcomed. An itinerant action of the Jesuit Network with Migrants, it works hand in hand with the Jesuit Migrant and Refugee Services and other institutions linked to the Society of Jesus and its partners.

06.

SHARED MEALS. A series of initiatives that take place around the table, where people can sit down, share a meal and exchange knowledge and life experiences. Some examples of this are: ‘La Mesa de Todos’ (Everyone’s Table), organised by the JMS in Chile; the Bizilagunak (The Family Next Door) experience in the Basque Country, Spain; and ‘Arte y sancocho comunitario’ (Art and Shared Sancocho), set up by JRS LAC on the Colombia-Venezuela border.

07.

CHARITY RUNS. Another initiative that fosters a culture of inclusion and hospitality are our popular annual charity runs organised by Alboan and Entreculturas; one is called ‘Corre por una Causa’ (Run For a Cause), and takes place in various locations in Spain, another is the race called ‘Venciendo Fronteras’ (Overcoming Borders), launched by the Ibero-American University in Mexico.

08.

SOCIAL HACKATHON. Called ‘Mentes sin Fronteras’ (Minds without Borders), JRS Colombia organised this space for social innovation where students, teachers and migrants put their heads together and designed, for 34 consecutive hours, ideas for intervention and accompaniment for Venezuelan people in Bogotá who have been forced to migrate, and are specifically at the city’s transport terminal.

09.

SCHOOLS WHERE LEARNING IS FUN. For years now, JRS Europe has promoted CHANGE, whose aim is to educate young people on the positive contributions that refugees make to society, encouraging them to take action to bring about change in their schools and local communities. These are some of the many examples: European Interschool Kahoot; a number of art workshops such as Todos diferentes, todos iguales (All Different, All the Same); and cambio medioambiental y migración (Environmental Change and Migration), among others.

10.

PETS THAT BUILD HOSPITALITY. It’s not easy to manage your emotions every day while coping with situations of great stress and anxiety. That’s why since war broke out, the JRS team in Ukraine has a new member: a little dog called Jacqueline. She has become a great friend to the children in our shelters, helping them to deal with their emotions and enabling communication skills that result in smiles, hugs and hope.

Get organised with friends, family, relatives and other people you know to arrange a place and a date.

Invite other people, such as neighbours, migrant neighbours, colleagues from school or work, and enjoy a day of meeting, of sharing life. Don’t forget to read our manifesto and take a family photo that you can share on social media using the hashtag #LaEsperanzaEsElCamino.
